Composite materials — light, low-density, rigid and strong — are steadily replacing metals across many fields. But their special properties, complex geometry and high hardness often cause fiber delamination and burrs during machining, driving up material loss and cost.

The seminar “Laser Cutting of CFRP and Ultrasonic Cutting of Composites — Introduction and Applications” was held on August 26, 2022, featuring two leading companies in smart machining: SHINBU CORPORATION and HANTOP Intelligence Technology — sharing methods and real-world cases of laser and ultrasonic composite cutting.

Since its founding in 1977, Shinbu has imported the machining equipment and general-purpose equipment Taiwan’s manufacturers need, serving as sales agent for Mitsubishi Electric wire-cut and die-sinking EDM with full after-sales service. Applications span precision molds, precision sheet metal and PCB manufacturing; drawing on this expertise, Shinbu entered the composites field in recent years.

CFRP is light yet strong, and as adoption grows the industry seeks 3D cutting and drilling processes that raise throughput and cut cost.In this talk Shinbu introduced a high-throughput CFRP laser cutting system that achieves quality beyond existing laser methods, along with the latest machining cases.

 2014: Oscillator design section — CO2 laser oscillators for CFRP cutting.

 2016-present: Manager, Laser Processing Machine Design Section 2 — CO2 laser machines for CFRP cutting.
